Apple has just announced the latest iPhone, simply named iPhone 4, and being one the carriers offering up the Apple mobile phone in Canada, Rogers has assured everyone that they’ll have this new device on hand in “the coming weeks.” Granted that Canada didn’t make it to the short list of countries (US, France, UK, Germany, and Japan) who will be getting it this month, this will definitely happen sometime in July wherein 18 more countries are expected to get treated to Apple’s newest iPhone offering. If you want to be kept up-to-date with this, you can sign up to be part of Rogers' mailing list here.
Apart from its aesthetic enhancements (thinner 9.3mm profile, front and back engineered glass covering), the iPhone 4 also now comes with a front-facing camera for FaceTime video calling (iPhone 4-to-iPhone 4, WiFi only), a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, 720p HD video recording, Apple A4 processor (similar to the iPad), 3-axis gyro to complement its accelerometer, WiFi 802.11n, dual-mic for noise cancellation, and runs on iPhone iOS 4.0 (aka iPhone OS 4.0). It also intros their latest innovation, the Retina display, which boasts of an impressive 960x640 resolution and a remarkable 800:1 contrast ration, the best in the market as of this posting. The iPhone 4 will hit retail stores in the US on June 24 (pre-order begins on June 15) and will be available in either full black or white in 16GB and 32GB variants. As per tradition in the US, the new iPhone takes over the price point of its predecessor, $199 for the 16GB iPhone and $299 for the 32GB model, while the current line, the iPhone 3G S, gets a price cut. Rogers will most likely do the same in Canada. We’ll report more on this once additional info is made available.
