The HTC Droid Eris features a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen, 5-megapixel autofocus camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, full HTML browser with Flash Lite support, 3.5mm jack, HTC Sense UI, and comes pre-installed with an 8GB microSD card. They didn’t go into detail as to what version of Android is running on the Droid Eris, but a prior report suggests that Android 1.5 is its bundled OS. That’s the real deal breaker in the whole package. Hope is not lost, however, as there is still a chance that HTC could release an Android 2.0 firmware update sometime in the near future. You can read the full press release here.
The HTC Droid Eris is now available and retailing for only $99 with a new 2-year contract (after a $100 mail-in rebate is applied) on Verizon. Those who found the Motorola Droid a bit too expensive for their budget now have a more affordable alternative with the arrival of the HTC Droid Eris.
