LG Unveils the World's Smallest Wireless Charger

LG unveiled the world's smallest wireless charger. The LG WCP-300 is Qi-compatible, meaning it can charge not only LG's own Optimus G Pro, but also the Nexus 4, the Nokia Lumia 920 and other Qi-compatible devices. Sized like a normal cup coaster, the WCP-300 is designed with portability in mind. The 65,000 won ($60) device is compatible with a standard 5-pin micro-USB cable to provide the "highest level of charging performance and user convenience." LG calls wireless charging the new "holy grail" of the smartphone industry. The WCP-300 will be available globally.

What Else You Need To Know

  • The WCP-300 utilizes electromagnetic induction to create a magnetic field that produces an electric current to charge the phone's batteries.
  • Although only 6.9 cm in diameter the WCP-300's charging area is 1.7 times wider than its predecessor.
  • Aside from LG, device-makers are coming up with their own wireless charging options: Nokia has the charging pad, Google has the Orb, and Samsung's said to be prepping a wireless charger for the upcoming Galaxy S4.
