Three months after being dropped by Apple as the default mapping application in iOS, Google Maps is back.

Available now in the iTunes App Store for iPhone and iPads, the much anticipated app has been redesigned and promises smoother interaction and faster loading times. It offers most all of the features expected in a mapping application including 2D + 3D maps, turn-by-turn voice-navigation, transit and walking directions, street view, satellite view and indoor photos.

What Else You Need To Know

  • Google released an iOS implementation of Google Maps just after 11PM Eastern Standard Time.
  • There is no offline mapping mode in this version.
  • Apple’s own Maps app has been met with criticism and Apple CEO Tim Cook apologized for the app’s condition and promised the company would improve the app.
