Countdown for HTC One Unveiling Begins

HTC put up a promo page, posted images on Twitter, and released teaser videos ahead of its February 19 media events in New York and London. Whenever the countdown timer ends in "1", the number is flashed in green, hinting that the upcoming phone would be called the "HTC One". The videos and photos show a device dressed in white and featuring a metallic unibody with chamfered edges -- confirming that the new Android phone would have an iPhone 5-like flavor. HTC believes it has something big coming up by holding its own media event instead of joining other device-makers in unveiling new devices at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona slated for February 25th to 28th.

What Else You Need To Know

  • The HTC one is rumored to have an industry first unipixel camera (comprising three 4.3-megapixel camera sensor lawyers), a 4.7-inch display with eye-popping 468ppi pixel density, a 1.7GHz quad-core processor, and the latest Android operating system customized with the HTC Sense 5.0 UI overlay.

I’d love to see a company deliver something truly exciting on the mobile camera front, because while a lot of OEMs including Nokia and BlackBerry have been talking up cameras as key components of their hardware, I’ve yet to see a recent development that really merits the pre-launch buzz. - Darrell Etherington, Mobile Crunch
