I suppose one way to decide if a cell phone feature is useful is its popularity and frequency of use. Using that as a yardstick, a camera would be a cool feature, since you never know when you'll want to snap a picture. Cameras are useful and popular.

Then there are the "also ran" features, stuff in your phone that is seldom used. After seeing the feature list of enough phones I am amazed they are still permitted to be considered "selling points".

Check out my Top 5 list of bad features and let me know what you think!

5. Notepad

I don't use the notepad feature. If I'm on the phone and someone wants to give me some information, how am I supposed to switch to the notepad if the phones own design prevents it (Blackberries notwithstanding) ? So, coming in at number five for poor design and difficulty of use is the ever present notepad.

4. Voice Recognition

While its true that voice recognition has finally made some improvements, it was so bad for so long it deserves a spot on the list. When trying to call my friend Dan and having my phone hear "tan", well it doesn't take many times before I stop appreciating the rich depth of this feature.

3. Stopwatch

Have you ever used your stopwatch? Okay, have you ever used it more than once? Seriously, isn't that something that would be more appropriate on, say, a stopwatch. Number three: the infamous stopwatch.

2. Banners you cannot change

Number two is not true of all phones, but in the case of AT&T devices you do not have the ability to change the banner. Instead, when you power it on, it tells you to be courteous!?! What?
Now I'm being told how to behave by my phone? Better to allow customers to create their own banners.

1. World Clock

And coming in at number 1 is the infamous world clock. I can understand a world traveling businessperson with a smart phone wanting access to different time zones, but seriously, why is this feature in a free flip?

Conclusion

Well, that's my short list of features we could do without. Let me know what you think. I'll post your Top 5 in an update!
