What You Need to Know

Started by Verizon in 2018, Visible taps the speed and coverage of Verizon's network to offer a budget-conscious prepaid service. Their robust coast-to-coast 4G LTE network includes rural areas other carriers don’t reach thanks to their LTE in Rural America program.

Service options are simple. There's a single prepaid plan for $40. This includes unlimited data, talk, and text within the U.S.

Visible does not sell phones, so you'll need to bring your own. At the time of writing, they support the iPhone 6 through the iPhone X. However, Android support is expected soon.

What’s Good?

  • Price
  • No-contract
  • Flexible payment options

What’s Bad?

  • No phone-based support
  • Invite only
  • Data speeds limited to 5Mbps
  • Limited phone support
  • No tethering

Notable Features

App-Based Support: If you ever need to change settings on your account, simply fire up the Visible app -- you even use it to sign up for service. While great for avoiding those annoying voice menus and long hold times, people looking for a personalized customer care experience might not like it.

Unlmited Data: Unlike most other unlimited plans, Visible is truly unlimited. However, in exchange for a hidden data cap, you'll find that speeds are restricted to 5Mbps at all times. Still, unless you're streaming 4K video, 5Mbps should keep things running smoothly.

Flexible Payment Options: While you can pay your monthly bill with the standard debit or credit card, Visible also supports Venmo and PayPal for added flexibility.

Awards and Recognitions

As this carrier is brand new, there's not any information related to awards and recognitions. However, they're powered by the Verizon network (and owned by Verizon), so we'll include their recent awards below:

How's the Network Coverage and Speed?

Powered by the Verizon network, their 4G LTE network covers more than 2.3 million square miles and 98% of all Americans.

You can check coverage and network types in your area using their Coverage Map.

While Verizon took first place in PC Magazine's 2017 US "Fastest Mobile Networks" study,

Verizon took first place in PC Magazine's 2018 and 2018 US "Fastest Mobile Networks" study for coverage and 4G upload and download speeds.

They ranked second in Ookla's  "2018 United States SpeedTest Market Report" with a score of 26.02. This is an increase over their 2017 score of 21.13.

In OpenSignal's 2018  "State of Mobile Networks: USA," they ranked second for 4G download speeds with an average of 21Mbps and second for 4G upload speeds at an average of 7Mbps.

However, in 3G they lagged behind as the slowest of the 4 major carriers and average download speeds near 1Mbps.

NOTE: You likely won't find the same speeds at Visible. Transfers are capped at 5Mbps.

For the average person, this shouldn't make a huge difference. However, if you're planning to transfer large follows or frequently use multiple data-heavy apps at the same time, you might notice a bit of slow down compared to other carriers.

Do They Charge Roaming Fees?

For domestic coverage, there is no need to worry about roaming. However, Visible does not offer roaming outside the U.S.

What About Long Distance Fees?

Unlimited calls to landlines and mobiles in the US are included with every plan. However, there is no support for international calling at this time. You'll need a separate SIM, app, or calling card for that.

Does Visible Offer Wi-Fi Calling?

No.

How About Voice over LTE (VoLTE)?

No.

Can I Tether My Phone?

No.

Can I Rollover Unused Data?

Since the plan is truly unlimited, there is no need for rollover data.

What Add-ons or Bundles are Available?

All Visible plans include voicemail, call waiting, call forwarding, 3-way calling, voicemail, caller ID and access to a suite of apps to manage your account and features.

At the time of writing, there are no add-ons or upgrades to add features to your account.

Can I Bring My Own Device?

Yes! In fact, you have to bring your own phone to use Visible. General requirements include:

  • The phone must not be on the IMEI blacklist
  • The phone must support frequencies in use by the Visible network
  • The phone must not be assigned to another Visible account
  • The phone must not be locked to another carrier network

At the time of writing, the service only supports select Apple phones. If you have an iPhone 6 or newer, you should be in good shape. However, they offer a compatibility tool to verify as well before signing up.

Do They Require a Credit Check?

There are no credit checks for Visible as it is a prepaid service.

What About Activation and SIM Fees?

All you need to pay to start using Visible is the initial month's service. There are no activation fees and the SIM kit is free.

Do They Charge an Early Termination Fee?

Since there is no contract, there's no worries about early termination fees! However, they also do not offer prorated refunds should you decide to leave the service.

Can I Port My Number To or From Visible?

Yes! Visible follows all Local Number Portability guidelines--allowing you to transfer numbers both in and out of your Visible account.

Requirements include:

  • The accounts your are transferring to or from must be active and in good standing.
  • You must have the old account number and security information to access the account.
  • Local Number Portability rules must apply to the areas from which you wish to transfer the number.

Porting your number is free. According to Visible, the process will take anywhere from 1 to 48 hours.

You can find out more information in their FAQ.

Will They Unlock My Phone?

As they do not sell phones, they cannot provide unlocking service for other carriers. If you have a supported phone you would like to bring to Visible that is locked to another carrier, consult our carrier summary for that carrier. It should include any required steps and information to start the unlocking process.

An interesting wireless service provider in that it only offers one rate plan

If Verizon is the network you love, and you’re looking to save a few bucks each month, this is a no-brainer. That is, of course, provided you have a phone that works with its service.

When it comes to expectations on how this network handles, you may be pleasantly surprised, even when it comes to transferring uncompressed media from device to cloud and beyond. If you need to be able to do that sort of work from practically anywhere, it’s the name brand backing of coverage and reliability along with a low-cost, value-driven approach that feels so novel when mentioning the word “Verizon.” I’d venture as far to say that Visible is probably Verizon’s most versatile product offering yet.

Get Visible if you want a lot of data but don't want the big monthly bill that usually accompanies such capacity. Metro's plans are a little pricier but come with fewer restrictions and support more phones (for now).

I can't become a customer

I decided to change over to Visible. I picked out a phone, entered my address but they say it is not a valid address. My neighbor 2 doors down ordered and got her phone. I entered her address and changed two numbers for my address but still the same problem. I tried to chat to solve the problem but was told my problem is because I use Safari and I must purchase an app from them to proceed. I asked to speak on the phone with someone and asked for their number. Was told they could call me, so I gave my number. They said they can't call me because they do not have my full name or email. I told them they do have that info. They said they can not call me until they get that information. I am not yet their customer because of my problems with my address. The number is therefore not a customer of theirs  so they will not talk to me. I can't link my info with my number because their system says I am not a customer. I decided this whole idea was a mistake and will keep my old phone service.

Visible, The Terrible.

I contacted Visible customer service because I got an email state that my phone# was transferred successfully from my old carrier to Visible. I put Visible sim into my iPhone 7 (got from Visible) and everything seems to work. Visible cellular is on the upper left-hand corner, next to my Wi-Fi from At&t. I can sign on to my Visible account through the Visible app. The problem is when my friend called me, the call still went to my Andriod phone (the previous carrier.)  I contacted customer service via my Visible account chat. I was waiting from 3:30 pm CT on 7/48/2019 until 11 pm CT (Visible chat close @12 am ET) but no one responded back. I did many screens shots for my record. I also sent many texts to Visible 99370 from 4 pm CT until 11 pm CT for help. Again, no one answered back. I captured these texts also. I wasted 8 to 9 hours of my time waiting for nothing. If I can turn back the time, I would not transfer my # to Visible.  I double-checked with https://freecarrierlookup.com/ to see if Visible has my phone#. It confirms that Visible has my # (the same as Visible email indicated.) RUN FOR YOUR LIFE WHEN YOU SEE VISIBLE, THE TERRIBLE!

worst customer service

the customer service is terrible, in fact no customer service at all. I made a return request 10 days ago and I was promised that a return slip will be sent soon via email. Its already been 10 days. I have been trying to contact them regarding my request since last three days. I was removed from chat wait line 3 times today only after waiting for hours.

Absolutely no customer service

If everything does not work immediately, you can forget getting any service at all. I tried to move to this company Friday. I noticed Saturday morning I was not getting any data services. The only contact methods for the company are through their phone app in what they call "Live Chat" which is FAR from live, since you will not get a response at all. You can tweet to their "care team" which again, is an automated response saying they will get back to you as soon as possible. 20 hours later, I still cannot get ANY support. Their main twitter channel does respond, but does not help either. At this point I just need to get my account number back from them so I can go back to my original carrier, and I cannot even do that, because they have NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT. I strongly urge anyone considering this option to look elsewhere. It is just not worth the few dollars a month you may be saving.

Customer support is totally lacking, people there are NOT capable of getting anything but promises and apologies done.

Dave Harp

I am tired of dealing with incapable and inept people.

Steve

I have had a similar experience. I first click the back button when applying and I got stuck in a error loop and could get any help from the chat group. They sent me too their esculated tech support and the tech support group emailed me some instructions which I completed,  but still wasn't able to correct the error loop.  I was not able to email them back so I had the go through the chat group all over again. I finally gave up and started over with another email. However, this time I'm stuck with paying for a new phone that I can't get activated because I can't seem to get the email to confirm on the app. Again I tried going through the chat group the sent me to their eculation team and again they just resent the email and closed out the case. I am still without service.
