What You Need to Know


Started by Verizon in 2018, Visible taps the speed and coverage of Verizon's network to offer a budget-conscious prepaid service. Their robust coast-to-coast 4G LTE network includes rural areas other carriers don’t reach thanks to their LTE in Rural America program.

Service options are simple. There's a single prepaid plan for $40. This includes unlimited data, talk, and text within the U.S.

Visible does not sell phones, so you'll need to bring your own. At the time of writing, they support the iPhone 6 through the iPhone X. However, Android support is expected soon.

Notable Features

App-Based Support: If you ever need to change settings on your account, simply fire up the Visible app -- you even use it to sign up for service. While great for avoiding those annoying voice menus and long hold times, people looking for a personalized customer care experience might not like it.

Unlmited Data: Unlike most other unlimited plans, Visible is truly unlimited. However, in exchange for a hidden data cap, you'll find that speeds are restricted to 5Mbps at all times. Still, unless you're streaming 4K video, 5Mbps should keep things running smoothly.

Flexible Payment Options: While you can pay your monthly bill with the standard debit or credit card, Visible also supports Venmo and PayPal for added flexibility.

As this carrier is brand new, there's not any information related to awards and recognitions. However, they're powered by the Verizon network (and owned by Verizon), so we'll include their recent awards below:

How's the Network Coverage and Speed?

Powered by the Verizon network, their 4G LTE network covers more than 2.3 million square miles and 98% of all Americans.

While Verizon took first place in PC Magazine's 2017 US "Fastest Mobile Networks" study,

Verizon took first place in PC Magazine's 2018 and 2018 US "Fastest Mobile Networks" study for coverage and 4G upload and download speeds.

They ranked second in Ookla's  "2018 United States SpeedTest Market Report" with a score of 26.02. This is an increase over their 2017 score of 21.13.

In OpenSignal's 2018  "State of Mobile Networks: USA," they ranked second for 4G download speeds with an average of 21Mbps and second for 4G upload speeds at an average of 7Mbps.

However, in 3G they lagged behind as the slowest of the 4 major carriers and average download speeds near 1Mbps.

NOTE: You likely won't find the same speeds at Visible. Transfers are capped at 5Mbps. 

For the average person, this shouldn't make a huge difference. However, if you're planning to transfer large follows or frequently use multiple data-heavy apps at the same time, you might notice a bit of slow down compared to other carriers.

Do They Charge Roaming Fees?

For domestic coverage, there is no need to worry about roaming. However, Visible does not offer roaming outside the U.S. 

What About Long Distance Fees?

Unlimited calls to landlines and mobiles in the US are included with every plan. However, there is no support for international calling at this time. You'll need a separate SIM, app, or calling card for that.

Does Visible Offer Wi-Fi Calling?

No.

How About Voice over LTE (VoLTE)?

No.

Can I Tether My Phone?

No.

Can I Rollover Unused Data?

Since the plan is truly unlimited, there is no need for rollover data.

What Add-ons or Bundles are Available?

All Visible plans include voicemail, call waiting, call forwarding, 3-way calling, voicemail, caller ID and access to a suite of apps to manage your account and features. 

At the time of writing, there are no add-ons or upgrades to add features to your account.

Can I Bring My Own Device?

Yes! In fact, you have to bring your own phone to use Visible. General requirements include:

  • The phone must not be on the IMEI blacklist
  • The phone must support frequencies in use by the Visible network
  • The phone must not be assigned to another Visible account
  • The phone must not be locked to another carrier network

At the time of writing, the service only supports select Apple phones. If you have an iPhone 6 or newer, you should be in good shape. However, they offer a compatibility tool to verify as well before signing up.

Do They Require a Credit Check?

There are no credit checks for Visible as it is a prepaid service. 

What About Activation and SIM Fees?

All you need to pay to start using Visible is the initial month's service. There are no activation fees and the SIM kit is free.

Do They Charge an Early Termination Fee?

Since there is no contract, there's no worries about early termination fees! However, they also do not offer prorated refunds should you decide to leave the service. 

Can I Port My Number To or From Visible?

Yes! Visible follows all Local Number Portability guidelines--allowing you to transfer numbers both in and out of your Visible account.

Requirements include:

  • The accounts your are transferring to or from must be active and in good standing.
  • You must have the old account number and security information to access the account.
  • Local Number Portability rules must apply to the areas from which you wish to transfer the number.

Porting your number is free. According to Visible, the process will take anywhere from 1 to 48 hours.

Will They Unlock My Phone?

As they do not sell phones, they cannot provide unlocking service for other carriers. If you have a supported phone you would like to bring to Visible that is locked to another carrier, consult our carrier summary for that carrier.
