Phone Scoop

Call quality is just not good enough

from Phone Scoop

The Sonim XP Strike presents a quandary. If rugged is what you need, it delivers in spades. It is one of the toughest phones I've jumped up and down on with my combat boots. Other than the survivability aspect, the Strike fumbles its core feature: phone calls. The quality of phone calls should be unsurpassed on this type of device. Unfortunately for Sonim, the Strike does not get the job done. Call quality is just not good enough....

Call quality is just not good enough.

The Strike nails battery life, and connects to Sprint's network well. It offers a smattering of apps (media, camera, browser) that some users might enjoy, but includes little in the way of flexibility of the menu system and doesn't even offer email.

If you don't mind the inadequate call quality, then perhaps the Strike is for you. If you need a device that delivers a better voice experience, Sprint has several viable options.

Extremely rugged, long battery life, three-year warranty

from PC Magazine

The Sonim XP Strike is the toughest phone on Sprint. It also comes with Sonim's incredible three-year comprehensive warranty, and it's hard to put a price on peace of mind. That said, you can get the flip-style Kyocera DuraXT for half the price. It isn't quite as tough as the XP Strike, and it doesn't come with Sonim's incredible warranty, but it does have a louder speaker and voice dialing, as well as a better camera.

A basic bar phone that may just be the most durable phone the general market has ever seen

Sonim has made a very basic phone that aims to do one thing well: withstand punishment. The XP Strike won’t win any beauty contests, the OS is slow and dated and the camera is horrible. None of that matters, but what does is that it was able to withstand our testing, which at times went above and beyond what it is rated for. Sonim has is a seriously tough phone for seriously tough users that may be more rugged than anything the famed Nextel lineup ever offered.

They can tout about how rugged it is all day, phone operation is terrible(not user friendly at all), the sound quality is the worst I have had on a cell phone in over 15 years. DC functionality is terrible(most times you only catch every other word if at all). I can say it does work fine as a paperweight on my desk(rating of +10 for this purpose), might also work as a grip under your tire when you get stuck in the snow(have not had the opportunity to utilize for this function yet, but winter is coming). Phone is heavy, over sized, cumbersome. These phones were given to us for our work issued device, worst investment ever. Cannot wait until this contract runs out. Phones will be virtually brand new since my staff cannot use them for the purpose intended. Look for large clearance sale...... BOTTOM LINE --- Phone is not a buy! Less

I opposite of love this phone because

What a piece of crap...it's like going back in time to 1994. Too small screen makes picture taking and viewing useless. Too small buttons make dialing a challenge. This phone is, however, quite durable...I have thrown it at least 20 times in frustration, and it still works! Do not buy this phone.

I love this phone because it is rugged and has 3G. A very good basic phone

I had a little trouble in the beginning because the camera and flash was not in sync. Found out it had a self-timer on the camera function and when I turned the timer off it worked much better. This is found under options when the camera is activated, just keep scrolling through the options listed.
