RATING

7/10
Informr score
The Samsung u410 currently has an Informr score of 7 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 30 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

The Samsung u410 is frankly a forgettable clamshell with a minimal entry level feature set. Even if you are in the market for a very basic phone you could probably do better than this model.

The u410 is a Dual Band CDMA that measures 3.48”x1.81”x0.77” and weighs 3.17 ounces. The external 1” display supports 65k colors and shows date, time, battery life, signal strength and doubles as a view finder for the camera. The internal 1.8” display also supports 65K colors and has a 128x160 pixel resolution. You can change the backlight time, contrast and dialing font/size. The keypad is a simple set of numerical keys, send and end keys and an easy to use navigation array that consists of a circular frame with four touch points and an okay button in the center.

The volume rocker and headset jack are on the left spine and the combined camera shutter and speakerphone are on the right spine. The u410 supports Bluetooth and has a talk time of 198 minutes.

Samsung has released many phones recently and it would be nice if each one had something distinctive about it. This model gives one the sense that it was built on a Friday and real close to 5p.m.

To "Jasmine" who reviewed on oct 13/10: You CAN silence the phone completely. Go under Menu -> Settings -> Sounds -> Ringers: There is a "meeting/silent mode" option. That will silence the phone completely from both texts and calls. You can also silence just texts, or just calls separately, which I think is a nice touch. Sorry you haven't had good reception with your phone, I've had fantastic reception with mine. Less

A Great, Fantastic, Durable Little Phone

I've had this phone for 2+ years now (Koodo), and it's been a great little phone. I have dropped it countless times (i.e. it has a few chips/dents and scratches on it), and it hasn't skipped a beat. Pros: -Battery: The battery seems about as good as when I first bought it, which is amazing considering I've had it for 2.5 years. The battery does go down quicker if you do a lot of talking/texting/ vibrate mode but that's pretty normal for most phones. -You can key guard it when closed so your bum doesn't accidentally dial people when in your pocket (a common problem with other phones). -Reception is amazing, but I'm not sure if that's the service provider (Koodo) or the phone. I can send texts in my basement which I couldn't do before with Bell phones. -In call volume can be adjusted and gets good and loud. Large, easy-to-use buttons for dialing. -Perfect basic phone if you want talking and texting. Cons: -Camera isn't the greatest quality; you have to hold the phone REALLY steady to get a photo that isn't blurry -You can't download/play any games on it. -You certainly don't want to use the slow, cumbersome internet browser on this thing. Get a BlackBerry or TouchScreen phone if you want a phone with internet. -Also not that great for downloading ringtones/screensavers (because of the slow internet, and you cant preview the songs before buying them). Bad Signal

The phone has very poor programming and the signal really sucks. My husbands phone sitting 2 inches from mine on the same carrier (Koodo) get's his calls. 75% of the time I do not get any of my calls, just voice mails 30 mins to 2 hours later--and that is IF the caller decided to leave a voice mail. My husbands phone sitting 2 inches from mine on the same carrier (Koodo) get's his calls. 75% of the time I do not get any of my calls, just voice mails 30 mins to 2 hours later--and that is IF the caller decided to leave a voice mail. What's the point of a phone if you can't communicate. I have spent hours on tech support trying to get it fixed. So I have exhausted other potential issues with why my service is poor. If my phone is not sitting near anything, out in the open, I might get my calls, but if it's just in my pocket or my purse.. I don't get any calls at all. REALLY DUMB! Because it's like going in and out of service, it's okay with texts, but you can't rely on it to be timely. It is a very cheap phone. Outgoing calls are just fine. For a cheap phone hardware wise it's made fine, and doesn't look bad. The features on the phone are terrible. You can't actually "silence" the phone without turning it off; even on silence or vibrate mode, texts still "chirp" several times. Calls are okay. Built in phone speaker is okay. Pictures are mediocre at best. Alarms work fine. Contact list is mediocre, but works. Has very little customization and the standard ringtones are terrible. Battery life is FANTASTIC. Would be a good starter phone for youngins. Wouldn't recommend this phone to anyone though. You get what you pay for, a cheap phone. Less

Good Phone But no Music Player ???

Ok this is a great phone for me but I spent like a crap load of money on songs to figure out there is no music player ..... does anybody know how to maybe download a music player on this phone

Works great, but can't get the bluetooth features working

I've had this phone for about 2 years; it is a great little basic phone. The only problem I now have is getting the bluetooth features working in my new car. Even the dealer couldn't get it working; he said they have problems with all Samsung phones trying to get them working with Ford's Voice Sync system.

I dropped the Koodo one about 11 feet without noticing and then stepped on it breaking the screen. It still worked fine but no picture. I did fine the sound to be a little annoying with it echoing my voice back at me sometimes and the text is a bit hard to read unless u make the screen a white color background. Overall it is a good simple phone that doesn't cost much. Less

Annoying little thing.

I call mine the electronic gremlin for a reason. It's absoloutely annoying. On the outside, it's a little pretty, cute and shiny. Doesn't chip as much as my other phones did. I call mine the electronic gremlin for a reason. It's absoloutely annoying. On the outside, it's a little pretty, cute and shiny. Doesn't chip as much as my other phones did. You open it up and it looks just like a normal cell phone; keypad, screen, etc. All right, it's pretty cool. Until you begin using it. Text messaging is a pain in arse with this phone. It's formal, with a subject box in it, but most text messages aren't formal. In that case, the subject box is a total waste. Next, the actual texting. Press once and you're ready to text. As your just about done, your finger slips just a tiny, tiny, bit and it presses the disconnect button. The disconnect button works as a 'back' and 'undo' button too, and you can't do anything about it. It will ask if you wanna save your message or not. It's a pain either way. Calling is definitely not top notch. You can hear your voice faintly repeating on the other line. The quality of the other caller's voice is low and I find myself having to ask the other person to repeat what they said. The wallpaper and design is really messed up. It might just be me, but I can't seem to figure out how to make the pictures I took on the camera stretch over and be the wallpaper. However the preset pictures do that automatically. I didn't expect the camera to be as great as my digital camera but I did expect at least an inch of quality. After taking the blurry little picture, you have to be still even though it already made the snapshot sound. If not, your picture won't be still. It does have fun little designs where you can put your head inside holes and make it look like your part cartoon. Or under water. Or holding a mug of beer. The few good things about my electronic gremlin is that it has voice recognition. However my other phone had that and better quality in everything. Another thing is the camera in the tiny front screen. Fun, but inaccurate. The picture ends up being way bigger than you expected. The battery doesn't come out easily. In fact, I can't even take it out. The ringtones are pretty fun...if you were 6. It also has a notepad which is helpful for forgetful people and the battery lasts very long. In conclusion, the cell phone is not worth it, no matter how much you are paying. Even if you want the simplest phone as a way to reach your kids, or one just in case of emergencies, get a better phone than this. Your kids will hate it and it takes forever to connect to the person you are calling. Less

It's a small phone but incredibly durable in the first month or so that I had my phone I dropped it an uncountable amount of times, and it still works perfectly. The look is pretty boring though, and the camera isn't the best, I mean it takes great pictures, but theres no zoom (in or out) so it's difficult to take pictures from lengths. Texting on the phone is fine, though I tend to get a lot of 'failed to send' messages that pop up. and the speaker is great, I have a lot of ear peircings and find that if the phone is too close to my ear the buttons get pressed, and you tend to need to have the speaker on a high setting to hear it. Over all it's a useful phone. Less

Ive had alot of trouble with phones, my first one was a motorola w385, and it got stolen. then, i got the LG Keybo, and my friend dropped it in the water. so, I decided after that that I should get a smaller, cheaper phone, and this Samsung u410 is really great. First of all, its REALLY tiny. its great for sticking in your pocket, or just carrying it around. Second, The keypad is easy to use, the buttons are easy to press, which is great for texting. also, it has the cutest little camera options. you can put fun little borders around you pictures, and for a 0.3 mp camera, it takes awesome pics. It stores alot of contact numbers, too. Also, if your a person whos always on the go, the bluetooth option is really great on it. It has speakerphone, too. Every phone has its flaws, but with this one there arent many. for one, the glossiness of the phone is not very good for fingerprints. another, the font when you text on it looks like your using a typewriter. But, other than that, the phone is by far the best flip phone you can have. Hope this helps! Less
