6.7/10
Informr score
The Samsung Gravity Smart currently has an Informr score of 6.7 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 7 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

Available through T-Mobile in the USA, the Samsung Gravity Smart runs Android 2.2 Froyo on a 3.2-inch HVGA touchscreen-equipped body with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities on-board. There’s also a built-in 3MP camera that can be used to take pictures or record video. The phone comes in the familiar slide-out QWERTY keyboard form factor which makes it useful for easy text input for SMS or e-mail. A dedicated voicemail key is also available for quick checking of voicemails on the go. Email and instant messaging services are both supported as well to ensure you are always connected with the ones you care about.

The built-in camera, as mentioned earlier, offers a resolution of 3MP and takes decent quality pictures and videos with its flash, zoom, and other features like camera effects, white balance, self-timer, panorama, and scene modes. Audio and video playback are supported so you can listen to your favorite tracks and watch your favorite videos whenever you like. It lacks an FM radio, though, so you can skip that one. Nevertheless, you can always keep yourself entertained with pre-installed or downloadable games and applications. And you probably won’t need to worry about running out space for all your downloads because the storage space is expandable up to 32GB with microSD cards.

One major downfall is the the lack of a document viewer. This might be enough to make some people reconsider, especially if they’re thinking of being a little productive outside of the office. Other common complaints about this particular Android smartphone include lag experienced during use and the somewhat low quality touchscreen display.

So how about the fact that it comes free with a contract? Is that enough to make it likeable? Perhaps. If you can get over a few minor concerns then this might still be a good—or shall we say smart?—option for a someone who is out for a capable smartphone that is simple and easy to use.

Oh, and its available in Sapphire Blue, Lunar Gray, and Berry Red.

Need to Know: Samsung Gravity Smart

1. Offers combination of touchscreen display and QWERTY keyboard for input. (The Good)

2. Touchscreen display is not too small and offers decent native resolution. (The Good)

3. Ships with an older version of the Android software. (The Bad)

4. Tends to be a bit slow during usage sometimes. (The Bad)

After spending significant time with the Samsung Gravity SMART, we came fairly impressed with it. Obviously, it wasn’t the spec sheet or the mind-blowing performance of the device which got to us. It was the fact that it got the job done on most occasions without breaking any sweat. As a succes...

In our opinion, Samsung's Gravity Smart is a serviceable handset. Although saddled with Android 2.2 (can we get Gingerbread, please?) and modest hardware underpinnings, the phone provides a relatively agreeable experience. Sure, there's some lag in its operation and its screen isn't as vivid as othe...

For a free phone with a 2-year contract, the Gravity Smart is not bad, but it's certainly not the best out there. Battery life is good, call quality is mediocre, the camera is only useful for texting, and the phone is laggy and crashed a few programs throughout our testing. Unfortunately, the phone...

The Samsung Gravity Smart is a decent all-around phone. Its biggest weakness is poor voice quality. Considering that many of us use our phones less for calling and more for networking, browsing, and messaging, this is not a deal-breaker at all.The menu system is intuitive, the messaging apps are rob...

Samsung has expanded its budget Gravity line to include an Android phone for the first time. Fortunately, the experiment was successful. The Gravity Smart is a good performer for a budget Android device, with a reasonable balance of size, features, speed, and price. Just keep an eye on prices for hi...
