As the top of Samsung’s 2018 phone line-up, the Samsung Galaxy S9+ takes the powerful specs and sleek design of the standard Galaxy S9 and packs in a few more perks to entice buyers.
Are they worth the added expense?
Overall, reviews of the S9 are positive. As much of the specs to the S9+ are largely the same, we encourage you to check out the S9 summary for the full details.
However, the S9+ has a few subtle differences…
One of the most obvious is the screen size. While still a Super AMOLED display, the screen offers more real estate coming in at 6.2-inches.
Under the hood, it features the same processor but a slight bump in RAM. Reviewers had no trouble with multitasking, gaming and heavy use with the 4GB of RAM included in the standard model. At 6GB you should enjoy a silky smooth experience in virtually every aspect.
You’ll also find a few more options for storage space, with variants available with more than the standard 64GB of the regular model. However, as both support microSD cards, expanding storage is simple and affordable anyhow.
Samsung also crammed a little more battery into the premium model. The 3,500mAh battery cruises through a day to a day and a half of moderate usage. Like its smaller sibling, it also supports USB Type-C fast charging and Qi wireless charging.
Lastly, and perhaps the biggest reason to spring for the S9+ over the standard S9 is a second 12MP lens on the rear camera. The single-lens version is already touted as one of the best smartphone cameras available by many reviewers.
The dual-lens option adds a physical zoom and the ability to create even greater depth of field for stunning portraits and creamy bokeh effects. Better still, reviews show that the phone uses the extra lens well. If you’re looking to invest in a phone for its camera, reviews indicate the S9+ is worth the cost of entry.

What the Critics Are Saying...
- Michael Allison, Expert ReviewsThe Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Plus is easily one of the best Android tablets you can buy, complicated only by the fact that Tab S9 Ultra takes the top spot. It’s both well-built and is a nippy performer, and it’s packed with software tweaks such as Samsung DeX, that improve its flexibility over regular...
- Ryan-Thomas Shaw, Android AuthorityThe Galaxy S9 Plus has truly stood the test of time and is, by all accounts, still a very competent smartphone in 2020. Many of the scarcely found features in 2020 are in this device. If you’re looking for a great all-rounder in the used smartphone market, the S9 Plus has my recommendation.
- Roydon Cerejo, Gadgets 360Samsung hasn’t made any drastic changes to the Galaxy S9+ compared to their predecessors, and the company didn’t really need to do much. Last year's design is still stunning, and now, it’s a little more polished.
- Anton D. Nagy, PocketnowI did not expect this hardware to age so well. That second drop this phone withstood should’ve broken it, and it’s still looking nearly new at least from a distance. Sadly I wish I could say the same about software. If a year later this phone has trouble getting a major Android update, I doubt it’ll...
- Alex Hernandez, TechaerisThe Samsung Galaxy S9+ is a great phone and it will be upgrading to Android 9.0 Pie. So if you can wait a few weeks or months, this could end up being a real good deal in the end.
