6.2/10
Informr score
The Nokia X7 currently has an Informr score of 6.2 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 10 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

The Nokia X7 is built in a strong stainless steel body with a scratch-resistant Gorilla glass screen. It boasts a display resolution of 360 x 640 pixels on a large 4-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen making it well-suited to various mobile applications including web surfing, casual gaming, and different media applications.

The Nokia X7 runs on a Symbian Anna platform giving users user-friendly access to different applications with an improved graphics interface. Although inside the X7 is a 680MHz ARM 11 processor with 256 MB of RAM, its a bit under-spec'd compared to many of the latest 1 GHz and dual core processors available today.

Belonging to Nokia's Music Edition line of handsets, the X7 delivers superb audio clarity with an enhanced audio chip from the Nokia 5800. Its two built-in loudspeakers are loud enough and do not suffer from any kind of distortion. MP3s and movies sound rich and brilliant with headphones.

The X7 takes pictures with an 8-megapixel fixed-focus camera for high quality 3264 x 2448 printouts. It has a handy dedicated camera button, a dual-LED flash and decent low-light performance. Also, the X7 amazingly records 720p resolution HD videos at 25 frames per second.

Internet connectivity with the X7 is possible with quad-band GPRS, EDGE, 3G, or HSPA networks to choose from. The new Symbian Anna web browser delivers a convenient way of browsing the web and reading emails by enabling users to zoom and scroll web pages smoothly.

In addition, the mini USB port connects the phone to a PC or laptop for file transfers as well as allows USB charging. Battery life for the X7 has an astounding standby time of 430 hours and 6.5 hours of talk time.

The Nokia X7 competes with the latest top-of-the-line smart phones but will stand out with its unique styling, superb features, and stunning sound quality. It will impress audiophiles looking for a great portable sound device but still enables them to get connected with everybody via internet or any mobile network.

Need to Know: Nokia X7

1. The enhanced audio chip taken from the Nokia 5800 produces excellent sound quality. (The Good)

2. The MicroSD and SIM cards tray located outside makes MicroSD card and SIM changing more convenient than prying the battery cover. (The Good)

3. 360 x 640 resolution doesn't stack up to the competition. (The Bad)

4. The Symbian Anna OS can't compete with the App catalogs of Android and Apple. (The Bad)

If the Nokia X7 came out around 2009, when the whole touchscreen thing was beginning to heat up, it would have made a killing. It still has the potential to sell but the competition will eat into its profits. We suggest you have another look at the competing phones listed here. Hard to choose, we kn...

To sum up the device in one popular internet description: "Nokia have just turned up to a gun fight carrying a knife". This is a device with software that they should have released 2 years ago. In today's market it is outclassed and overpriced.

It’s hard not to sound like a broken record when writing about the shaky future for Symbian. However, when Nokia can release devices like the N8 with a fantastic camera, or the E7 with its great keyboard, you can accept the need to compromise. With the X7, the quirky look and stupidly designed side...

There are nice things we can say about the Nokia X7. It has good hardware design, a basically pleasing screen and good battery life. And Symbian Anna is a step in the right direction. But we just aren't sure where Anna is headed in the long term, and that alone could make the Nokia X7 a blind alley....

With a distinctive look, a solid build, a great screen and a decent camera, the X7 could have been a very attractive smartphone. But it's frustratingly slow and, although the interface is an improvement on Nokia's previous attempts, it still needs more work.
