Nokia 6086 review

4.8/10 AVG.
RATING

4.8/10
Informr score
The Nokia 6086 currently has an Informr score of 4.8 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 15 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

The Nokia 6086 has the ability to make WiFi calls, and that is what distinguishes from the many look-a-likes in this overwhelmed segment of the market: the entry level phone.

The 6086 is a sturdy flip that comes with Bluetooth, VGA camera, MP3 player and a speakerphone. The internal display is disappointing, generating only 128 x 160 pixel resolution, a low enough quality to work on the eyes after a while.

The Nokia 6086 is rated at five hours of talk time and four days of standby time.

The strength of this phone, again, lies in its ability to make calls via WiFi and that it has a good call quality. For people who are not concerned with bells and whistles this is a perfectly decent phone and should be on the list of phones to review.

Have had this phone since september of 2008. was excited cuz was suppose to be good for an upgrade in 09, 1 wk before the carrier changed its disclaimer.. for another year...anyways the point is come august of 09- 1 yr almost since having it, the phone decides it wants to constantly shut it self off or go on a freeze mode. i don't know if any others have done this or not ? another sad fact is that the front shell- snapped up by the hinge. it still hinges but is literally missing the plastic shell piece that covers the screw to hold the hinge together. the camera is not the best i find. and the speaker and ringer volume seems to fail endlessly Less

6086 sucks

upgraded phone to 6086r on may 28 /09.battery goes dead in 2-3 days ,ringer you can`t hear assendes but not set there. purchased 3 year protection plan was a waste of money because the wirelesswave store at eastgate won`t fix it. never never buy a phone from them again .

Phone work for 1 year only

Right after the manufacturer warranty expired, this phone stopped working, could not "find the sim card", tried trouble shooting with Rogers. they could not help. Advised me to buy a new phone. This is unacceptable, a phone should not last a year, there should be more options available for defective products.

He took it to Roger's, and (of course) they said "Impact damage. We'll fix it for $150.00" But, there was no impact. You can't convince Roger's of that, though. I've read of Nokia having this problem with their screens, they just don't seem to be admitting it. Think my husband's going to switch providers and phones. Less

Rogers gives you the choice of this Nokia 6086 or a Blackberry Peal if you want to utilize their new WiFi service. I did not want to pay extra for the Blackberry because I do not utilize texting or other such features. This was the only choice. Hooking up the WiFi is a bit of a trick since I run a hidden network with MAC filtering and you only get the opportunity to see the MAC address at the end of a successful setup. I found this out by chance. There is probably some secret key code to get it but Nokia does not provide such nor do they provide any instructions for retrieving it in their manual. Also, they fail to print the address inside the phone. This means that you need to disable MAC filtering prior to setting up the phone, then re-enable it later. Refer to the manual to deal with the hidden SSID. On the router side, to save phone battery life, you need to set your beacon interval down to 1000 (1s intervals) and make sure that your router broadcasts all speeds so that an old WiFi interface like the one in this phone can pick up. Note this phone also does not support security settings other than the default WEP key 1. Failure to get the settings just right causes your connection to fail. Rogers sells a pre-configured (lame) router but does not provide recommended settings if you already happen to own a really good router. The synch software from Nokia self corrupted and needed to be re-installed. The manual also forgot to specify that 2GBytes is the limit. I bought a 4G thinking I might throw some music on the phone and had to give it to my daughter for her camera. I left it cabled to my computer one night and found it dead in the morning. Apparently it can't use the USB port to re-charge so it fails the travel friendly test. The "brick" styling and archane cable connectors are obvious hallmarks of engineering failure. What is wrong with USB? Overall, there is little useful information is in the manual so good luck if you are not tech savy. Range wise, I expected a low bandwith device like this to have a wider range than a laptop. It is actually worse. This thing flips back to Rogers network within feet of the front door. It does what I bought it to do despite the indifference of both Nokia and Rogers. Don't expect anything else. Less

Don't Buy this Phone

I purchased this phone less than 40 days ago and have to take it in for repairs. When contacting Rogers wireless they advised me that it has a software problem and the only way I can return this phone is if I have problems with it 3 times or more. Nokia's policy. This is unacceptable from a company that over charges for a phone that is garbage.

Nokia Phones suck

Nokia phones arent too well engineered, organizing the contact list, finding details from phone calls, checking text messages gets so annoying. With a plan from Rogers, you can get an Erikson phone which is so much better

After three months of constant hard use, this phone has held up well. The battery life and call reception are very good. For an inexspensive phone the features are excellent, the WiFi and bluetooth capabilities are outstanding!!!. I am able to ultilize the bluetooth with both LINUX and Windows Vista, though not a smart phone, syncing the phone is still possible with the nokia software. Internet access is great and fast for a phone of this size and price, I can monitor my IP cameras from the phone and accessing URL IPs are very easy. Bluetooth connections to other devices are also very good, I presently have a Garmin Nuvi 660 connected and all features work great, minus the texting mode. My previous phone was the Samsung Blackjack, a windows CE based phone, it had many bells and whistles , but not as functional or compatible with the Nuvi 660 as the Nokia 6086. For texting the 6086 T9 and its prediction text can use a little improving, but I donot text much so I can live with this draw back. As with all phones with american firmware the Nokia is limited to English, French, and Spanish languages. Hopefully phone manufactors will be able to give the consumer a choice of languages in the future. Over all I found the Nokia 6086 a very good phone in features, excellent in price, and extremely good for combatibility with other devices. Less
