The "1-Minute" Review

The Nokia 3220 is a durable, colorful phone chock full of features, and lights. While it probably won't appeal to the business set, the phone should strike a chord with youth thanks to its flashing lights, small size and abundance of face plate options.

Pros

- EDGE data technology for fast data transfer
- Good battery life
- Instant messaging (IM) capability
- Durable construction

Cons

- No bluetooth
- No infared port
- Poor digital camera quality
- Clumsy navigation key

It won't be easy for Nokia 3220 competitors

from GSMArena

I am sure that Nokia 3220 will find many upholders. It's sold for reasonable price and the potential customer will get a phone loaded with functions and with unconvetional design, which he will be able to adapt in an original way. Call for this phone will definitely increase when operators, which don't support EDGE in their networks get it going - then Nokia 3220 will become one of the cheapest phones equipped with this technology.

I don't know if there is anything to reproach to this phone. Just missing Bluetooth or at least infrared port makes me feel bad. First of all, we should keep in mind that this is not a model intended for business users, but a stylish phone designed mainly for entertainment.

It won't be easy for Nokia 3220 competitors. If we consider only the stylish phones with classical construction and forget other Nokia models, Nokia 3220 rivals might be Siemens ST60, Philips 535 or Sagem myX-6....

Pros and Cons

+ Wide range of functions
+ Speed
+ Stylish light effects

- Not very comfortable keypad
- Eccentric color combinations
- Missing wireless connection to a PC - no infrared port or Bluetooth

Too bad, because every feature worked well & was easy to use, & once I bought a disc of ringtones I was able to upload through Nokia PC suite, I was able to delete the lame tones that came loaded on the XE phone. I have had this phone for 2 years now and have dropped my 3220 countless times, had phone throwing competitions with friends(i could throw it 150 feet) having theirs shatter and mine come out unscathed. I have even accidently gone swimming with it in my pocket, which ruined the non-speakerphone speaker, but the phone still functions perfectly aside from that. another time i dropped it in a concrete pump, and also i have run it over with my truck. This phone is absolutly indestructible. The rubber grips make it harder to drop and the flashing LEDs are the coolest thing ever(thats why i bought it cuz flashing LEDs are cool.) I now have a Sony Ericsson W300i, but i still keep this phone as a backup for when the firmare one my w300 craps out every few weeks.(get it together sony ericsson). I highly reccomend this phone to anyone who can track one down. Less

This phone surpasses each of my criteria and I would return to Nokia if they made a new version of this phone. -other excellent feature: if you miss a text/call you can use lights feature to provide you intermittent flash to get your attention. -do not look to this phone for camera/media. this is a basic phone that provides *all* of the basic stuff (listed in first bullet above) with top quality Less

This phone will last longer than all the rest. I've dropped it over 100 plus times on the sidewalk outside work and at home. Don't do that with another cell phone. I want just a basic phone with speaker phone. I don't want or need any of those adolescent features. I already have a digital camera and a laptop and desktop computer. I don't want them in a phone. I don't want the add on charges that come with most of that garbage. I've had my 3220 2 1/2 years and I haven't worn off the rubber bumpers on it. If you have, then maybe you should get a rubber ball to squeeze. If your hearing is going try the free firemens bell ringing tone offered with the phone. If you can't hear that then get a hearing aid. Or rely on the bright flashing lights that the phone flashes when it rings. You can turn that feature on or off. The 3220 is like the old T###X watch slogan. It takes a licking and keeps on ticking, (working not ticking). If you want a basic phone I highly recommend the Nokia 3220 . All cell phone providers should offer it free with the contract, they might keep their customers happier longer. Less

Me saying that I have "had" this phone for the past 2 and half years is an understatement, I have practically used and abused this phone to its limits, and it still does not give up on me. Battery life is excellent, speakerphone loud and clear, just the way it should be. Looks fragile, but it highly durable and sturdy, can survive and be put back in place even after few good drops and falls. The best are the lights (for the people who keep thier phones permanently on silent mode), lights really come handy, even hidden deep in the crevices of a ladies bag- highly recommend this phone. But not for someone who is thinking of substituting this phone as thier camera- this phone doesnt have too much storing capacity, captures decent length and quality videos aswell. Less

Fun Phone

Pro: it's fun and glows Con: need nails to press the buttons I love this phone. It's fun, glows when it rings and has fun and different ring tones. Even the screen savers are silly. Perfect if you're looking for something different and unique.

Pro: Customization, size, durability, battery life Con: Not a one. I used the 3220 for 2 full years, with the message counter showing almost 40,00 messages (yay for unlimited text plans!) The only reason I recently upgraded was the lure of the new 5300 (which I also love). It was difficult to say goodbye to my old phone though. Why? Because it was SO durable. The back lifts off easily, and the ability to insert your own pictures and designs is one-of-a-kind. The small lights in the sides of this model are really fun. It's like having a little nightclub in your pocket. People who had not seen this model of phone before were always impressed when I would show the lights' coordination when the ring tone. I dropped this phone a number of times. And while the back would come off more often than not when it was dropped, it always snapped back together easily and the phone never sustained any damage other than the expected minor dings in the plastic. The screen and functionality always remained tried and true. This phone is a dynamo of functionality for its size. While it doesn't have an MP3 player, its battery life is incredible. From the time it came out of the box, til the time I shelved it for my new Nokia, its battery went for days at a time with plenty of use without needing a charge. Less
