The "1-Minute" Review
If you take the sexy Motorola KRZR and put it through cell phone boot camp you end up with the Motorola W385; similar in design to the KRZR but more durable and less flashy.
While the dual band CDMA W385 shares a similar frame with the KRZR, the exterior is black and rubberized, making it easy to hold and adding a layer of durability. The feature set, too, has taken a step down from its sexier counterpart. The external vertical monochrome display offers the time, date, battery strength and caller ID, but the 96x32 pixel resolution may cause you to squint. The internal 1.8” 160x128 pixel resolution screen supports 65K colors. Though a decent screen, it is not of the same quality as it’s sexy cousin.
Inside you will find a keypad also similar to the KRZR but shiny metal has been replaced with the same rubbery material used on the exterior, again a durable feel that makes for confident typing. The navigation array is clear and well placed, just above the number keys, and consists of a circular frame with four touch points and an okay button in the middle.
With the W385 you can call, text, send multimedia messages, enjoy two email accounts and use the WAP 2.0 browser to surf the web. The feature set includes Bluetooth 2.0, a speakerphone, a 1,000 contact phone book and the ever present collection of stocking stuffer features: alarm clock, world clock and notepad.
The W385 should appeal to people who want a durable phone with good call quality that still looks good and offers some extras.
