Motorola has been best known in the cell phone market over the past few years for their Razr range of thin, lightweight phones. With the Q (priced at $299 from Verizon and $99 from Sprint with a two-year contract.), they are looking to break into a new space; the smart phone market, where users look for features like easy emailing and big, bright screens. But the Q is cheaper than most Pocket PC and Palm phones that include touch screens and the like.

With its design, the Motorla Q has earned it the "BlackBerry Killer" nickname. It has the three "S" of the perfect gadget: Slim, Sexy, and Smart. Text can be entered at full speed, thanks to the QWERTY keyboard, and displayed on a nice QVGA display. The inside is nice too: the phone is a 3G CDMA handset that can connect to Verizon's high-speed EV-DO network. Internet browsing, email and messaging can all be used at reasonable speeds when compared with non-3G phones. Is the Motorola Q the new "King of the hill"? Read this review to get our opinion.

Pro: Keyboard is nice, text messaging is decent, good web browser, lots of features Con: kinda bulky, memory is not the best, not easy to work with, takes a while to process Using experience: 1 years This phone is good for those of you who like multimedia phones and love a lot of features. It has mail, an excellent web browser, shortcuts, lots of menu styles, and it has great potential to be an excellent smartphone. But if you're a text message guru, be sure you delete messages often. I text a lot, and several times a reminder popped up telling me my memory was almost full because of text messages (it wasn't even that many messages) and it took 45 minutes to delete all of them. Overall, there are better smartphones out there, but this is not a bad choice. Less

I got this phone online USED and it is STILL the best phone I have ever owned! The files are easy to back up, it can hold MP3s without needing them converted to some other file type. I had actually gotten a new phone when I resigned with Sprint but chose to go BACK to the Q because I loved it that much. The keys are more distinct and I have dropped it many many times - just now (its 3 years old) did I get a little crack in the screen! (even so, it hasn't changed the display any!) To sum it all up :I LOVE THIS FRICKIN PHONE!!! Less

NOTE: I am not a Sprint customer but did own a Motorola Q. I couldn't find an entry for the Q under Verizon so I'm doing it here. It was that bad. This is not a commentary on Sprint's service. This is easily the worst piece of hardware I've ever used. My problems: 1- closing programs- completely awkward an unintuitive. If I send a text and exit out, using the red hang up button, it takes me to the desktop but if I want to close the program I need to open another program (the task manager) and kill the program from there. It's fine for texting but when I browse the web and then text then open my contacts list, it keeps all that running in the background draining my battery. 2- Erased programs- The phone locked up and I had to pull the battery out. The result? ALL of my programs and contacts were erased. Basically anything that didn't come with the phone. This happened TWICE. SAve your money and go Blackberry Less

Anyone who knows me, and some of you do from my many reviews - I fully believe in reading real reviews written by real people BEFORE buying anything and even though I read all the positive reviews on the Motorola Q, I find myself STUCK with a super SLOW internet, smartphone. I find that not only is the MOTOROLA Q INTERNET SLOW but the KEYS ARE VERY SMALL and hard to read too. If you need reading glasses FORGET ABOUT USING THE PHONE WITHOUT GLASSES. I was a little angry with AT&T wireless becasue they roped me into a 2 year contract with this phone and then within 60 days of using their service ATT DISCONTINUED THE MOTOROLA Q. No doubt they recvd. several complaints on how slow it is. I currently only use this as a phone. I terminated the internet service part of my contract. I have to say that ATT was very nice about it and even credited my account 2 months worth of internet service charges. So in short, great looking sleek phone with a solid sturdy feel but seriously lacking in performance... I should have bought a BLACKBERRY :) As always, THANKS for reading my reviews and be well. I've had this phone for 2 and a half years. It's a horrible phone. Just another issue with the phone one thing after another. When I try to use the internet most of the times it'll say "error unable to place call". So I have to constantly turn it off then try the internet again. The battery life doesn't last all day, no matter what you are doing. I had to replace the battery so many times. Sometimes I don't even get text messages or even phone calls. All I get from people for texts is "I sent you a text hours ago did you get it?"...no I didn't because my phone is terrible. All I get from people for phone calls is "hey I called you why didn't you pick up?" Then I'll get a voice mail from that person. Every so often my phone freezes, in the result of it having windows mobile, always something wrong with windows. The adhesive fell off definitely on the front of the phone. It doesn't always charge when I try to plug it in. When I'm on the internet sometimes the web crashes. Also sometimes my phone will randomly turn off by itself for no reason. It will stop working after you had it for more than a year. But I noticed this problem within the first few months I've had it. It's a cool phone, has good features and stuff, but it just doesn't meet up to my expectations since there's always a problem with it. I don't recommend this phone to anyone. Less

It turns on and off on it's own all of a sudden and sometimes I have trouble just turning it on. I have to try it 3 or 4 times. I have my Q through MTS, worst service there as well. Get your Q through a different company cuz they are ridiculous to work with. Took like 4 or 5 months just to get my phone switched to my name and the whole time all they needed was a signature from us. They never told me this until about my 11th time (okay I exaggerated a little) coming in there and getting mad. Less
