I have had it for three years and loved it. i have never had to send it away for repairs. i have dropped in many times and it was fine. the design of it was pretty plain but it didn't have a touch screen or nothing so no worries about it breaken. i even painted with nail polish and nothing happened :). i used it mainly for texting and it did me wonders. i also called every once in a while and never had a problem, just with my plan... since i have had it for three years i think its time for a new one even tho it still works. any suggestions for a good quality new phone?? Had the phone for over 2 years with TELUS Good : Very tough (droped it often on asphalt and still work) Reliable Signal is stronger than most other popular phones Easy to use. Small size and light weight Average : Sounds quality is OK, but could use improvement Speakerphone works OK Outside & inside screens works OK. Hard to see in sun light. Crap : 0.3 MP Camera useless Battery life good for about a day Texting is a nightmare. IMPORTANT NOTE FOR TELUS CUSTOMERS ----------------------------------------------------------------------- With **TELUS**, most interesting functions of the phone have been DISABLED. They should be fined but CRTC in Canada for that. Very disrespectful for customer to do this. I was able to hack my phone, so I can upload MP3 to use a ringer, but very long and hard to do. Importants functions disabled by **TELUS** (as far as I know) : *Bluetooth data transfert (pictures, music, voice recordings, etc) *MP3 rings (YES this phone plays MP3!) BOTTOM LINE : Good phone from LG. Telus ruined everything by blocking functions. Less

The 5300 is relatively inexpensive. Cons: there are better choices if you do a lot of texting. Less

The LG 245 has been my first phone since.. Dec. 2006? Was pretty satisfied when I first received it, and here are the reasons why I like it and why you should keep it if you have one, and the reasons why one may be unsatisfied with it and may want a new one. Pros: -Good design -Nice graphics -Good reception (in places where you're supposed to get reception) -Simple and easy to use -Decent price for the functions avaliable (Bought for $100 as a Christmas set. Came with charger and bluetooth wireless earpiece). You get what you pay for, and more! Very worthwhile. -Camera has neat effects and you're able to see the display on the front screen, and you can use the pictures taken as your front or main display. -Many simple functions prove quite useful. (Schedule, calculator, and alarm, unlike most people say, HAS helped me wake up when needed. Funny enough, the ringtone for the alarm is quite loud, so I've never slept past it, and schedule reminders are quite handy) -Speed dial and being able to input both home and cell numbers for contacts proves quite handy, unlike cells that other friends of mine have where you have to make 2 entries for a person's home and cell. -Very VERY durable. Has been dropped from staircases, fell on floor, and the ultimate test: Been washed in the washing machine (long story - forgot to take it out of my jeans the day before it went in the laundry basket)... and Lo and behold, it still works. Only thing I had to give up was a washed-up main screen, and shortened battery life? Text messaging also got delayed a bit, but maybe it's just the network. Battery smelled detergent-fresh for a bit. -Many people say that having the vibrate too loud is a bad thing, but hey, at least you know you're getting a call? Cons: -Small inbox for text messaging. After 50 messages, you have to empty it out, and you can only save up to 20 messages. For outbox though, you can go OVER the limit for some reason, so you can save up to 60 messages? Or not sure.... never really went over that amount. -Doesn't come with games, but playing with all the functions the phone has to offer is fun enough... -Ring tones are kinda soft... this I have to agree with, or maybe it's just me and my bad hearing, or after it got washed. Thus why I always use vibrate now... -It has no keychain slot!!! That, I was sad about. Where am I gonna put my bomberman cellphone charm!? -Battery life gets shortened after a while? Not sure, since this only happened after going through the wash... It turns off once in a while, which can get annoying when you're expecting calls, but problem mainly solved by charging the phone whenever possible. Overall... it's a pretty good phone for someone looking for something simple. This phone deserved a better review, since many seem to give it an underaveraged rating, yet just states that it's terrible. Give us a reason!!! If you're looking for something more fancy, then prepare to bust out more money, but this phone is cheap, yet seems to offer more than it's worth. Only suggestion is to not get it wet (and by wet, I mean submerge it in water for over half and hour, which, by common sense, to even have the phone WORK at all let alone be able to call or use any of the functions is a miracle in itself). Was thinking of switching phones, but after seeing all these reviews, I think I'll reconsider. This phone is not BAD. Just treat it properly, and it'll love you back. P.S. To those who actually read the whole thing, kudos to you, you deserve a cookie. To those who rate it bad just 'cuz I say the phone is good and it's too long for you to bother to read, may this phone bonk you on the head and run away. Thank you Santa for an awesome phone. :) Less

I use the phone as my home phone and cell phone (no land line) and it has been frozen during an emergency.... had to pull the battery out, wait 30 seconds, put back in, and restart before I could make my call. Happens on a regular basis, but noticeably more often during humid or warm weather. Less

It is super durable and looks hott. the camera however doesn't take very good pictures and the speaker isn't very loud. the phone tends to reset its original background sometimes which can be frustrating. also the text message inbox can only hold 50 messages so it has to be emptied often. the vibrate mode is quite heavy compared to most phones and tends to be fairly loud which is a disadvantage. overall not bad but with quite a few flaws. I like this little phone, however it does come with some flaws. It tends to freeze up, and this has been brought up by a few people already. Yes, it will freeze up on occasion, and the only way to get it out of its rut is to take out the battery. I found that trying to download ringback tones tends to confuse this phone. I can download one just fine, but if I try to switch to another song it won't take. So to avoid all confusion I am just sticking to the ringtone that came with the phone. The pictures are not always perfect, but then again it does come with some neat features such as being able to take pictures in the dark (not because of the flash), and you can make the pictures black or white, and other colors. The phone has reasonable life to it. I like the fact that I can save events into the calander, it has speed dial, it has a speaker phone. I have not tested out all the features so this is as far as I can report. The bottom line, it's a cheap little phone to get, it will work, but in some cases just be prepared for an occasional freeze up, and maybe ringtone confusion, but overall it gets the job done. Less

Do not buy this phone! It seems to work for most people, but a significant minority (including yours truly) have the problem that the phone will pick a random time to freeze up completely, and it doesn't reset until you take the battery out and put it back in. This happens at absolutely random times -- so it makes the phone completely unreliable if you're not constantly watching it, and the alarm clock feature worse than useless. I've missed class twice because of this phone. Less

So-so, so far

My camera always freezes as it tries to initiate the camera program. That could just be a lemon. Who knows. But how else am I supposed to take pics of butts in the club?! Rings are not loud enough. Then again, most newer phones seem like that. But this one rings in my pocket and I don't hear it! (Yes, the ringer and speaker volumes are set to full) The only way is to put it on vibrate only. That's right, you can't make it vibrate AND ring. It's vibrate mode, or ring mode. Other than that, it's a pretty standard phone. Less
