A G4 Only in Name

from NDTV

As we stated earlier, the headline feature of the LG G4 Stylus - its stylus - is of limited use at best, which means the smartphone must vie for consumers' attention like any other offering at this price. While the phone packs in plenty of software tricks and has great battery life, the LG G4 Stylus is let down by limited RAM, a low resolution display, and a camera that's average at best.

The phone launched in India at a price of Rs. 24,990 and is now available at Rs. 21,000. At this price, the phone faces tough competition from the likes of the Moto X Play and the ZenFone series by Asus, amongst others. If you value battery life over everything else, you might want to consider the LG G4 Stylus, but in every other department, it comes out second best.

After living with the LG G Stylo for some time, it merely reveals that the stylus here adds nothing new or refreshing to the overall experience. It’s just your simple, ordinary stylus – and nothing more. To that degree, it reaffirms Samsung’s position of being the innovator in the stylus arena because its S Pen technology is unmatched.

Currently, the LG G Stylo can be fetched for $49.99 on-contract through Sprint – or $288 off contract. Needless to say, its affordable cost is enough to attract those who are tight on a budget and looking for a big phone, but its included stylus hardly achieves anything unique that we can’t do with our own physical digits. The savings is the most promising thing with the LG G Stylo. Besides that, it’s just an underperforming phone that attempts to draw people in with its pointy, outdated tool.

Phone Scoop

An inexpensive Android handset with an over-sized screen and stylus

from Phone Scoop

At $200, the LG G Stylo is a solid deal from Boost Mobile. The phone has elegant - if recycled - looks, and performs well for the most part. The screen is a major selling point, and the stylus makes the large size easier to handle. LG's goofy rear buttons are growing on me and they work well. The phone has great battery life and reasonable LTE data performance, but call quality is definitely lacking.

LG's user interface makes some improvements to the base Android OS. I like how flexible the app and settings menus are, but I was disappointed that LG didn't add its Health and QSlide apps to the phone. The camera doesn't offer too many shooting options, but it works well enough and takes solid pictures.

Cnet

Stylus-wielding phablet with an affordable price

from Cnet

The LG G Stylo is a unique device in that it treads the line between added functionality and too much added price. It doesn't have as many useful tools and tricks as the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has in conjunction with its S-Pen, but it also doesn't have the Note 4's premium price tag. At the same time, the ZTE Grand X Max+ for Cricket Wireless is another extremely affordable phablet that currently costs only $170. And while it too has a long-lasting battery and a 13-megapixel camera, it doesn't have the benefit (however slight) of a built-in stylus.

In that sense, the G Stylo hits somewhere in the middle -- an inexpensive phablet that has a tad more functionality than your usual lineup of phones. Sure the pen doesn't pack as many smart features, but it still comes in handy when you want to scribble down notes and doodles. And even without the stylus, the handset still remains a solid big-screen phone for those on a sub-$200 budget. The ZTE Boost Max, for example, costs the same and also has a 5.7-inch display. But LG's phone has a newer version of Android, captures better photos and has a longer-lasting battery to boot.
