What the Critics Are Saying...

Android Authority

The Huawei P30 offers great specs, a beautiful design, and an industry-leading camera, but comes at a cost where it should include a few more bells and whistles.

- David Imel, Android Authority
Neowin

As far as the camera goes, it's the second best on the market, so it's tough to complain, other than about the lack of 4K 60fps video capture. But if you want a great camera and the best overall experience, the P30 is the way to go.

- Rich Woods, Neowin
Pocket-lint

If you're looking for a pocketable flagship then the P30 is a great option for its design and capable camera. That said, last year's P20 Pro will be tempting for price, while the P30 Pro is larger, longer-lasting and more capable in every way - making that the model most will likely want.

- Mike Lowe, Pocket-lint
TechRadar

The Huawei P30 has one of the best cameras we've seen in a phone, with features like incredible optical zoom and night mode that other handsets could only dream of, but other than that it feels more like a decent mid-range handset than a flagship.

- Abbas Ali, Tom Bedford, TechRadar
GSMArena

The P30 doesn't really come off as a lesser phone than the Pro. Sure, it may not be as fully tricked out as its bigger brother, but it's got battery life which most competitors can't match and a versatile triple camera that takes stunning low-light shots, plus the phone looks good in the process. If you were tempted to cough-up for the Huawei P20 Pro's impressive triple-camera and 3x lossless optical zoom, Huawei has delivered an upgraded version of the tech in the P30. Better yet, the new camera is powered by the faster Kirin 980 chipset and its brainy AI system that automatically improves on your photography skills. And unlike the P20 Pro, the P30 returns the 3.5mm headphone port to its rightful place, too. Very impressive.

Huawei may have stripped too much out of the P30 phone

from Digital Trends

It may sound like we’re being harsh on the P30 here. Truth is, the Mate 20 turned out to be a solid, desirable phone and I have no doubt the P30 will be the same. The trouble is, the P30 Pro is such a step forward, and the competition is so strong, the P30 really needs to impress when I spend more time with it.

A properly good smartphone

The P30 has a smaller display than the Pro, but it's AMOLED nonetheless. It's got a conventional earpiece as opposed to the acoustic screen of the Pro, and while not necessarily directly related - it drops the IP rating from IP68 to IP53. The camera setup is also not quite up to the Pro standard.
