One of the most pleasant to work with Windows Mobile devices ever

HTC Touch Cruise will find quite a number of fans, offering a load of features matched by compact size and stand-out styling. Besides, the touchscreen experience is only second to Apple iPhone, which is a good enough premise for some serious market success. The well performing GPS receiver and the good battery life will also attract users who like to travel a lot. HTC Touch Cruise is probably one of the most pleasant to work with Windows Mobile devices ever. The enhanced TouchFLO does make a difference, the friendly feel and stylish exterior undoubted strong points too. The Touch Cruise joins the TyTN II as the HTC portfolio headliners and the two feature-packed performers basically raise a fundamental question: hardware keyboard or not. The slightly more expensive TyTN comes with full QWERTY keyboard and tri-band HSDPA. So basically it all boils down to picking your priorities.

The best connectivity and the largest screen

Overall the HTC Touch Cruise was quite fun to use, but the touch interface doesn't feel as polished as its rival, the Apple iPhone. However, I still really enjoyed using HTC's innovative TouchFlo system, with a special mention going to the attractive Touch Cube. The device's camera was also unexpectedly good, providing great images that were backed-up with a great photo-viewer and an attractive screen. Connectivity was another great plus for the Touch Cruise, which supports just about every type of connection that you can think of.

There were a few issues that spoiled the show though, and the lack of a 'proper' keypad was the main contender. Being a professional messaging and organization device, it is likely that users will be entering plenty of text, which isn't the easiest of tasks on the Touch Cruise. Personally I'd have welcomed the inclusion of a qwerty keyboard, or a standard keypad at least. I'd also like to see options for changing email and SMS/MMS message alerts, and the ability to view contacts on the SIM card separately from those on the device. It's also a shame that the video player struggled as it did, because the display would otherwise be great for video content.

The Touch Cruise is easily the best-equipped device in HTC's original 'Touch' range, offering the best connectivity and the largest screen. Despite it's lack of a physical keypad I still give it a 'Highly Recommended' rating. It's safe to say that the Touch Cruise brings the best elements of its siblings and squeezes them into one sleek device.
