The HTC Butterfly stands as a contender among the likes of the Galaxy S4 and the iPhone

It stands at the tippy-top of the smartphone hierarchy and at that price point, you can probably opt for a bunch of alternatives. But it will be hard to challenge this device on the software or hardware front, short of the company's own HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4.

That being said, with the HTC One so close to launch, the Butterfly will come under competition from a superphone from its own company. And for the price, it might be hard to ask users to forego the One. However, since the One might be prohibitively expensive and with an unsure launch date, the Butterfly will be a good bet for a flagship smartphone.

HTC Butterfly is a good phone, no doubt but the biggest hindrance to the device is its price. The current price of the phone is around Rs. 46,000, which is way more than HTC will sell the One for later this month. If HTC manages to drop it in the range of what Sony sells the Xperia Z, Butterfly has a chance to steal some sales from Sony while the One can fight with the iPhone 5 and the upcoming Galaxy S4.

The HTC Butterfly is a power packed phone with a slim waistline. Its 5 inch display gives crystal clear images and the audio quality through earphones is amazing. On the downside its SIM tray could have been better because even after using the microSIM tray ejector pin you need to do some work to get hold of the SIM. Also, low light photography is found wanting. Nonetheless, if you are willing to spend more than Rs 45,000 HTC is worth buying especially for its display and stylish design.

The HTC Butterfly is the most expensive Android smartphone in the market. It's also one of the best Android phones we've used combining a major set of features, a brilliant HD screen and great ergonomics and build quality. We feel that the asking price is a bit on the higher side, if you compare it to flagships from other brands. Having said that, the phone outperforms all its rivals and the full-HD display is unique.

If you're someone who likes owning the best phone, no matter what, we have no hesitation recommending the HTC Butterfly. The phone matches the iPhone 5 not only in price, but thanks to the enhancements in Jelly Bean, in the overall experience as well.

Having said that, not everyone would be comfortable putting down this big an amount for a smartphone, and such people may consider other flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S III, which are now available at attractive discounts compared to their launch price. Large screen enthusiasts may prefer the Galaxy Note II.

The HTC Butterfly is one of the first smartphones in the world to sport a full HD display and that will remain its main selling point. But apart from that it’s also proven to be a decent all rounder. It does have a few shortcomings but its advantages outweigh them. It won’t be HTC’s flagship model for the year since newer models particularly the M7 is rumored to be announced next month. But it still is one of the most feature packed and best performing smartphone in the market today and just shows us that HTC is on the right track. If you’re looking for a high end smartphone that performs well and has a great screen, this might be your best bet.

Phonedog

Display is arguably the best on the market, design and build quality are fantastic

from Phonedog

The DROID DNA may not be the perfect smartphone, but it's a sign for better things to come from both HTC and its biggest competitors. It is a new level of design and attention to detail. If display quality is your primary concern, the DROID DNA is likely your best choice, but if stamina and storage are more important, look elsewhere.
