Somewhere up in the rarified air, where Arabica coffee beans are grown, I think, there is a short list of highly anticipated phones that drift down, one by one, to us mere mortals.
One of them is the HTC Touch Diamond (TD). Long-awaited, backed by a highly respected name, the Touch Diamond does not disappoint.
Unlike many supposed “iPhone Killers”, the TD is an extremely well made device that uses TouchFLO 3D technology to allow the user a full “touch” experience.
One key difference between the TD and the iPhone is the OS. The Touch Diamond uses Windows Mobile for its OS, a more open system, if not slightly more awkward than its iPhone counterpart.
If you are just dying for a touchscreen phone with some horsepower, the HTC Touch Diamond may be just the device for you. It boasts a 3.2 MP camera, so those UFO pix will be super crisp and finally put a rest to all that crazy speculation.
It commands 4GB of internal memory, fully user accessible. The downside here is that there is no additional, removable memory option. However, the supplied 4GB is enough to give you plenty of storage space for your music, pix and applications.
Perhaps most striking about the HTC Touch Diamond is the UI. HTC has gone to considerable lengths to overhaul the UI to the point where you almost don’t even realize you are using a Windows-based machine. Beautiful animations enhance your interaction at every turn, powered by a 528 MHz Qualcomm processor. The exchange rate means this could do well against a Mustang GT Cobra.
As for functionality, it’s time to stop mentioning the clock and calendar. This phone can handle your lifestyle, unless your Paris Hilton.
For looks, capability, usability, functionality, this is one phone that really delivers.
No buyer’s remorse here.
Enjoy

- Eric M. Zeman, Phone ScoopThe Touch Diamond combines style and the powerful Windows Mobile platform that many business users need with the HTC TouchFLO 3D user interface. The Diamond does make a few concessions, however, that are sure to put some potential users off.

- Walt Mossberg, All Things DigitalEven with the Diamond’s stylus, the keyboard felt small and cramped. Using just your fingertips was next to impossible.
