The Casio G`zOne Commando currently has an Informr score of 6.7 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 10 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

There aren’t a lot of truly remarkable rugged CDMA Android smartphones available on the market nowadays. Casio took notice of this and delivered a palm-sized offering with Android 2.2 Froyo in the form of the Casio G`zOne Commando. Toting support for CDMA 800/1900 MHz as well as EV-DO Rev. A packet data, the Commando is ready for those who want to go on an adventure.

Weighing just a little over 150 grams and measuring 15mm thick, this is a phone that should not to be taken lightly. That is to say that it definitely commands attention, especially with its rather unconventional outer appearance. It comes equipped with a 480x800 pixel resolution 3.6-inch touchscreen display and all kinds of hardware sensors all around. It also has internal wireless antennas for GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 2.1. Rounding out the list of hardware features are the following: 512MB of RAM, 1GB of internal storage, 5MP camera with LED flash, 3.5mm headphone jack, and microUSB connectivity. And in case the 1GB of alloted internal storage space is not enough, there’s a free 8GB microSD card for extra storage included in every package.

When this Casio Commando was first released to market, the default operating system was Android 2.2 Froyo. Now, it can be upgraded to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It may not be as powerful or as sexy-looking as most high-end offerings from other smartphone makers, but it does hold special status as a smartphone in its own right. It’s nowhere near any levels of perfection as far as Android smartphones are concerned, but for geeks who have a heart for adventure, the Casio G`zOne Commando will surely be a worthy companion.

Need To Know: Casio G`zOne Commando

1. Can be upgraded from default OS of Android 2.2 Froyo to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. (The Good)

2. Unique among Android smartphones in many important areas, not the least of which is outer appearance. (The Good)

3. Comes with fairly limited amount of RAM and may not be the best handset for multi-tasking. (The Bad)

4. Included battery doesn’t really last very long despite being high capacity. (The Bad)

The Casio G'zOne Commando for Verizon Wireless is a specialty phone. When measured against "regular" devices, it might not shine that much. But when paired with the correct consumer, one who needs a tough element-resistant smartphone, it proves itself worthy. If you are that special person, then ple...

Even though the Casio G’zOne Commando isn’t the fastest or most high-end smartphone on the market, it fills a void for a mid-level device that is also rugged and durable, which can withstand water and being dropped on occasion. We love its overall build quality, and that it has a differe...

The Casio G'zOne Commando certainly isn't for everyone. If you're sure-handed enough to never drop things, you don't ever plan on being out of sight of civilization, and you've never lost a phone to a bad encounter with water, then the features that distinguish will be useless to you.But it's a well...

The Casio G'zOne Commando is okay, but I have several reservations about it. If you don't need an Android phone, consider stepping down to the excellent Casio G'zOne Ravine ($49.99, 4.5 stars). It's a flip phone with a nifty suite of less powerful apps, it meets the same military specification, and...
