Peter, it's likely that these issues are happening because of your phone's storage settings. When you checked to see if the SD card was in, did you also try unmounting it either through the Settings menu or physically removing it then putting it back in? If you haven't done that yet, give it a try and see if that fixes things. Let us know what happens with an update.
