Mine does this exact same thing! The only thing I can think is that candy crush is too much for the phone to handle. Like using too much data.. did you ever figure it out? Did you take it anywhere and have it looked at?

It's a bit hard to tell exactly what might be wrong with the phone at this point, but it's a good thing that you were able to rule out a dead battery by using it on your wife's phone. Since the battery itself still works, can you try putting it inside your phone then connecting the charger to see what happens? Try to wait for at least 3-5 minutes after you connect the charger to see if anything shows up on the screen. If you still don't see anything, it may be time to take the phone to your carrier for a closer look.
