Why does the Doro PhoneEasy 611 keypad showing different characters when trying to input names in the phonebook?

You probably pressed the star *, which switch you to a list of a special characters.
The characters look like greek, russian or maybe turkish. sorry i can't be more precise i do not have the phone with me. the english numbers & alphabet also appear. i have set the phone for english
