7.4/10
Informr score
The Asus MeMO Pad FHD 10 currently has an Informr score of 7.4 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 6 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

What's good

  • Excellent high resolution IPS display
  • Lightweight and comfortable design
  • Smooth rendering of Android OS and 2D games

What's bad

  • Poor outdoor visibility
  • Lag with more demanding apps
  • Cannot smoothly play all apps/games on Google Play

As its name suggests, the headline feature of the Asus MeMo Pad FHD 10 is its Full HD (1920x1080 resolution) 10.1" IPS display. Like the MeMo Pad HD7, the screen offers excellent viewing angles and good indoor viewing.

Benchmark tests by Hardware.info do show, however, that the screen brightness on the tablet is very low, making it difficult to read view outdoors especially since it does not include an outdoor mode. These benchmark tests also go on to show that the color quality is relatively poor, especially those that fall within the blue, green and magenta spectrum. In addition, experts note that the glossy screen does attract a significant number of fingerprints and smudges.

Design-wise, many experts actually prefer the MeMo Pad FHD to its direct competitor the Nexus 10. PCPro notes that the 17 percent lighter body makes it noticeably more comfortable to hold for long amounts of time as well as the softer, dimpled-plastic finish.

The tablet offers both a micro-HDMI output and microSD slot, both of which the Nexus 10 lack. Unfortunately in terms of specs and performance, the MeMo Pad FHD10 lags behind other competitors in the same price range.

It has a dual-core 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, 2GB of RAM and up to 32GB of internal storage. According to Tom Morgan of Expert Reviews it can render the Android OS and 2D games without a hitch. Unfortunately, those specs are likely not powerful enough to smoothly render demanding 3D games and, as PCPro notes, the x86 based Intel processor makes the tablet incapable of running every game on Google Play.

Overall, most reviewers agree that the FHD 10 is a relatively decent tablet for the price.

Unfortunately, its main feature, the display, is "disappointingly dim" as Laptopmag states and prone to smudges. In addition, the Intel processor and graphics card are not meant for 3D gaming so DigitalVersus recommends the tablet more for "ordinary" users.

CNET, on the other hand, praises the MeMo Pad FHD 10 for its specs and budget stating that its "lightweight design make it a contender for best 10-inch budget tablet."

The MeMO Pad FHD10 is a strong mid-range 10.1in tablet with a good screen, reasonable performance and a useful battery life. If £300 is your ceiling it’s one of the very best 10in tablets out there. There are some strong alternatives if you can find an extra £20, however, with the...

While many 7in tablets now combine power and speed at low prices, it's tougher to find cheaper 10in models, but the Asus Memopad FHD 10 is among the better devices available today for the money. Its only serious competitor is the Nexus 10, the 32GB Memopad is around £20 cheaper than the 16GB...
