So I wrote to Nokia about this issue, since I see it being asked all over the place and have yet to find an answer.

This is the reply I got:

We apologize for the delay in responding to your e-mail message and appreciate your patience. We understand that you would like to know how to activate the lights and vibrations with a custom ring tone on your Nokia 3220 phone. We would like to provide you with the following information:

We regret to inform you that the custom converted ring tones will not function with the lights on the mobile phone. The ring tone must be designed to function with the lighting feature of your mobile phone. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

If you have any additional questions, please contact us. To ensure proper handling, please continue to use the current subject line.

Thank you for choosing Nokia for your mobile needs.

Hmm... Thing is, I AM designing these things! I'm using Anvil Studio to create/convert midis. I'm fairly sure that getting the lights to go is simply a channel assigment thing, but it takes too damned long to test!
Aside from that, what the hell is the point of having ringtones that won't even vibrate the phone??

Anyway, if you want a direct line to Nokia to bug 'em about this try this address: [email protected]

Watch to make sure you don't have more tracks in your midi files than the phone can handle. It seems that 3220s don't like more than 10 tracks.

I just cut a couple midis from 12 tracks to 10 and they work fine now.

search for Anvil Studio if you want a powerful, free, and easy to use midi editor. It's also got a "fix song" feature that seems to do wonders.

    Yer welcome.
