Is it ok to unlock a free phone from Rogers?

If someone could tell me what this thing is.

I got a letter in the mail that said I was blah blah great customer and they are sending me a Free phone.

Well I called in and they said that I get the phone and everything for free no contract or anything. There is one thing I have to activate the phone in 11 days other wise they will charge me for the phone and apparently that is to prevent me from giving it away.

But how would they really know because I only use unlocked phones on there network. What if I were to unlock this one?

I'm wondering how long you have to be a Fido customer to qualify for the new phone
Does anyone know?

I know its an older post as well. But if its a Rogers phone why would you need to unlock it anyways? And I don't understand by what they mean by activating? Activating only works on their old network. GSM you really dont need activation if you have a working SIM card.

Could you update us on what happend?

I know this is an old post but I think you are referring to the "President's Offer" or something to that effect.

There are no strings attached, it basically means that you spend a lot at Rogers or fit within whatever criteria it is that allows them to offer it to you.

As for the activation deadline, my guess is that this is just to ensure that you receive the phone and that it is not lost, stolen, or otherwise mishandled (such as selling it to another party as new). Because it has a SIM Card, though... really, you can do what you want with it once you have activated it.

except mine was from Fido... the thing is, they billed me wrong and i phoned them and complained, saying if this happens again i'll just leave Fido. and what do u know? the next day they ring me up and say that i'm a long standing customer and deserves a new phone! i think they're sending me the sony ericcson t237
