8.2/10
Informr score
The Huawei P10 Plus currently has an Informr score of 8.2 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 16 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

What's good

  • Fast everyday performance
  • Sharp, colorful display
  • Dual-camera produces detailed images
  • Good low-light camera performance

What's bad

  • No oleophobic coating leads to grimy screen
  • Game play not as smooth and fast as expected
  • Lower contrast display

Huawei has come a long way in terms of name recognition and quality. As of 2017, they're the third-largest smartphone maker on the planet. With the P10 Plus, Huawei shows why they have earned that spot. Still, is it enough to entice users to make the switch from more popular brands?

Let’s see what reviewers have to say.

Design-wise, the P10 Plus takes inspiration from the iPhone 7. It has the same matte finish, curved sides and flat back.

Reviewers aren’t complaining though. While it skews a bit large, they note that the smooth edges, light weight and overall slender proportions make it comfortable to hold and use one-handed.

Reviewers enjoyed a new design addition: the serrated power button. They said the texture made it easier for them to press the correct button without looking at the phone.

The reason for the P10 Plus’s large size is the 5.5-inch 1440-by-2560 LCD screen. Critics noted its sharpness and also add the pixel density of 540ppi. They were very impressed with its color reproduction and its overall brightness. Most had no problems using the phone under bright sunlight.

Unfortunately, they discovered the screen fell flat in terms of contrast. Blacks never achieved the inky blackness offered by other flagship phones.

It lacks an oleophobic coating—something most flagship phones offer today. Instead, you'll find a removable plastic screen protector. Once critics removed it, the screen gathered grime after only a few minutes.

Performance is where the P10 Plus excels. It comes equipped with a 2.4GHz octa-core chip and 6GB of RAM. Both in benchmark and every day tests, the P10 Plus performed admirably.

Reviewers noticed no slowdowns or stutters when opening apps. Multitasking was a breeze. They did, however, have issues when it came to graphics. Despite the strong processor and large amount of RAM, graphics intensive games were not as smooth or fast as they expected.

Due to the powerful processor and qHD display, the P10 Plus comes equipped with a large 3,750mAh battery. Most reviewers could get through a full day of moderate use on a single charge. With heavier usage, they recommend carrying around a charger.

The biggest draw of the P10 Plus is its main camera. On the back of the phone, you'll find a dual-camera layout with a 12MP color sensor and 20MP monochrome version.

Why two cameras? The monochrome sensor captures better detail and light. The color sensor focuses on accurate color reproduction.

While this is the same layout as the smaller P10, the P10 Plus comes with a wider aperture (f/1.8), which allows in more light.

When put to the test, the detail captured by the camera—even in low light settings—wowed reviewers. Their daylight shots were also crisp with excellent color reproduction. With little-to-no shutter lag and optical image stabilization, they could capture more usable pictures in almost every setting.

Despite its high price tag, reviewers recommend the P10 Plus, especially over the smaller P10. Pocket Lint states, “… it’s one of the best looking Huawei devices to date… the battery life is great, the dual cameras are capable, there’s loads of power and storage on board…” Trusted Reviews adds, “It’s fast, looks attractive and has an excellent sized display.”

What the Critics Are Saying...

P10 Plus has many similarities with the classic P10, while their most significant difference lies in the dimensions. The display is now 5.5″ which will appeal to the users looking for bigger working space. What’s more, the resolution is also increased, so if you insist on the really high...

The P10 Plus is two steps forward and one step back for Huawei, it must be said. You’ve got a phone that delivers flagship-level camera quality, brisk performance and sturdy build quality. But you’ve also got a new take on user navigation that just doesn’t work and an unimpressive...

If you're a budget-minded Android user looking for a premium phone with a great camera, this handset is for you. If battery and a powerhouse chipset are your main concern, I’d look elsewhere.

The Huawei P10 Plus is a totally decent phone: it's got brisk performance, a camera that's more flexible than most, and a big, high-res screen. But at the same time, it's also a phone that's really difficult to feel very passionately for.

Offers a premium product, with high quality build, slim feel and significantly improved software over previous models. Huawei's modifications to Android aren't all perfect, but mostly, they're improvements. I have no hestitation recommending this phone to just about anyone.
