Click accounts/mail on the settings page,
Click on the mail address with the green sync icon,
Press the menu key (hardware-touch button on the left side)
There is an option "remove account"
This worked for me on android version 4.4.4
Open Settings > look for Accounts, under it are email accounts being used in the phone.
