The Kobo Aura HD is by far one of the best ereaders we have used. Text is generally clean without pixilation and appears sharp and clean both in standard and backlit modes, making it pleasing to read.

Kobo's claims that page turns are 20 percent faster on the Aura HD do seem correct, as swiping from left to right on the screen delivers the next page of an ebook almost instantly. However, if you're expecting the speed or performance of an Android tablet then guess again, because, as with most ereaders on the market, touch commands can still be frustratingly less responsive than we're completely happy with, especially while typing complicated WiFi passcodes, for example.

The Surface Pro is the best Windows tablet we've used. It also makes a pretty good laptop. But as a tablet it's not match for the best iOS or Android devices, and as a Windows laptop it can't compete with Ultrabooks. It's portability and performance will be perfect for a few, and okay for most. So that makes it a good but not perfect device, which feels about right as a verdict.

All in all, there is no better all-rounder on the PC market than the supremely versatile Surface Pro. It could comfortably serve as my only computer. But the fact that a conspicuous compromise is the best PC around is a testament not to its brilliance, but to our changing technological times.

Stop to consider what you’re getting, however, and the Surface Pro really isn’t bad value for money at all. The hardware is impeccably well constructed, the performance good, and the Wacom digitiser, stylus and Full HD display make for a great combination. The ergonomic irritations in laptop mode, together with modest battery life, mean that it won’t suit everyone, but the Surface Pro is a great choice for those who want power and full Windows compatibility in such a tiny device.

The Acer Iconia W700 is not a bad product, but it makes more promises than it keeps. It's neither a great tablet, nor a great laptop replacement as its battery life is too short and the supplied accessories too cumbersome. The only genuine bright spot is the screen, but it's not enough on its own to convince us.

The 16GB, Wi-Fi only version of the Galaxy Note 8 is available in the United States for $399, a price that isn’t exactly cheap, but not unreasonably high either. It’s clear that Samsung made some compromises in the specs and features department to be able to offer the Note 8 at that price point, but does the end result justify the financial effort?

The answer boils down to one point – do you care about the S Pen, and if so, how much are you willing to pay to have it? The stylus is the biggest selling factor of a device that is in most regards average. The camera is lackluster, the battery life is only decent, and the software is standard fare if you don’t care about the S Pen features. On the plus side, the Galaxy Note 8 offers great performance and the display is relatively good, making it a good option for media consumption and gaming.

The Galaxy Note 8.0 has two cameras, but both are rather uneventful. There's a 5-megapixel rear camera on the back that doesn't have a flash, while a front-facing 1.2-megapixel camera handles video calls. Both still images and videos captured with the rear camera are of a poor quality, with excessive image noise and a lack of detail particular issues. The front-camera works fine for video calling apps like Skype, but the quality of still photos is predictably poor.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 has slightly disappointing battery life. It lasted an average of a day and a half during our testing, sometimes pushing almost two days depending on use. Compared to both the iPad mini and the Google Nexus 7, both of which can easily last up to three days, the result is below par.

The Asus MeMO Pad ME172V isn't going to knock out any of the flagship small-screen tablets out there, but it's not meant to. At £129 it’s a more affordable Android option, and it's from a reputable tablet maker. The MeMO Pad isn't for gamers or power users, but it offers a solid experience for those interested in less demanding tasks like web browsing or media consumption.

The Aura might be the best e-reader on the market (it is), but it’s tough to recommend that anyone currently swimming in the Kindle pool hop the fence and join Kobo’s party. Amazon has created a robust ecosystem that rewards readers who go all-in, and once you’ve tasted those rewards, you’ll miss them too much. But if you’re a ravenous book lover who has largely ignored the Amazon Prime extras, and you don’t really care what Stephen King is doing, the Aura HD is the best of the e-readers.

The ZTE Optik i purchased seems to be a wonderful low cost device with a 16GB internal storage & a Great display with 216 pixels per inch runs on a Android 3.2 Honeycomb. Im quite satisified with this tablet. Value for money

I bought this tablet for myself for Christmas from HSN. It's the best of both worlds combining e-reader and computer in a nice 7 inch size. I love this little jewel as the price is right, picture is sharp, color is great, touch screen very responsive, ease of use is perfect, and it has google play for apps! I can pop it in my purse because of the size, whip it out when there is wi fi and I expanded the memory by adding the 32g micro memory card. I only would have liked to see two things added 1= louder speakers (I bought external and have buds) and 2= that it came with 4g, but I'm hoping my phone can become a hot spot.....

It doesn't even have google play store app, i have one of these tablets, the Ebooks part of it isnt great, its okay, you cannot get decent games, and you cannot download much, 2.7 of the 4 GB of storage is used on pre-installed apps. If your going to pay this much money, get a Kindle Fire. its touch and resolution are okay , but the screen looks as if it has an oily film on it, because on a white back ground you always see the colors like when you get a screen wet, if that makes sense, and no matter how often you wipe it off, its always there. Just don't waste your money.

I love this tablet, I have been using tapestries to help keep myself organized with school notes. The front facing speakers add a better experience for games and movies, as well as audio novels. The value is definitely there.

For a person with poor vision, tablets are a way to continue enjoying reading. The font choices and the sizes available are inadequate to enable me to read this tablet. I was lead to believe that font sizes could be adjusted via touch screen (thumb & finger) but not so.The available adjustment just don't allow a big enough font

Everything the company says about this tablet is lies. First, of all this tablet has the tendency to shut down then after a few minutes turn back on BY ITSELF. Second, the market sucks, It does not offer all the options that the Google Play Market has to offer. Third,the internet will shut on its own when ever doing an activity on the tablet itself. Fourth, the screen glitches. Fifth, Netflix does not work on the tablet, it works on my phone and my Ipod but never on my tablet, you can only hear audio but no video input is displayed. Sixth, the tablet does not allow curtain emails to be setup it keeps giving error "can not connect to server" and you have to have a exchange account to put appointments into the calender. FURTHER more this tablet is a total waste of $200 dollars. Also For some reason this tablet does not connect to the computer via USB. If it was possible i wouldnt rate this tablet I exchanged it for another and it does the same errors and same problems..

I've only had this for a few days so far but this is an initial review. What I like the most is that the 2 antennas together are MUCH better than the other UMPC that I had -- I can go much, much further from my wi-fi routers than I used to -- and still have great reception. This is one thing that I have wanted more of and the HP Slate gives it. I like that it has a nice screen, I can see well on it and the touchscreen part of it is very receptive (without being too receptive) and that is great. I like the two cameras (one on back for regular pictures and one on front for self-pictures and video conferencing). While the manual says that it doesn't exceed any heat limits, it does seem to get a bit warm to my liking. The other thing that I hope for is a spare battery as I use this for my job and that way I can just keep on going (the battery use for me seems to go about 4 hours). However overall I really love this and think it is awesome and am glad I made this purchase.

Not bad for the price.........E-mail access is great and it is also great for Music & Pictures storage; if you install a separate storage mini-card........

got ASUS Eee Pad Transformer the over day , i like it a lot . had a bit off trouble in stalling norton , if you use fire fox to in stall you will be ok , do not use google. the sound could be better . and the manual could give you more infore about the tablet, but over all very good 8 out off 10
